Box Score 3 Wichita, Kan.—After taking two losses on Friday afternoon to conference opponent Newman University, the Aggies turned things around on Saturday with a 4-3 win in game three.
The Aggies held a three-run lead over the Lady Jets through the fourth inning of Saturday's match-up. Newman took the first run of the day with a home-run in the first inning, and OPSU's
Madison Heathington answered with an Aggie homer to open the second inning and tie the game at 1-1.
Heathington came back with a double to right field in the fourth inning and was followed by
Salina Galindo who hit a single to advance Heathington to third base. Sam Arledge stepped up to the plate next and blasted another Aggie home-run good for three RBI.
The Lady Jets would score one run each in the fifth and sixth innings but the Aggies held their lead and took the one-run win in seven innings.
Arledge notched her sixth win in the circle pitching a full seven innings in game three with eight hits, three runs and two strikeouts; she also led the game in RBI with three.
Lilli Ward and
Kolbi Graves were the only Aggies to cross home plate in OPSU's game one loss (8-2). Ward was brought in on a single by
Laura Trehal in the first inning and Graves came through when Ward reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh.
Rachel Thompson took the loss in game one throwing four innings with 11 hits, five earned runs and one strikeout.
Taylor Richardson came in for two innings allowing four hits and one earned run.
The Aggies managed two runs in game two as well, taking a 4-2 loss to the Lady Jets.
Rachel Thompson scored a run in the second inning after driving a double down the left field line;
Salina Galindo hit a single for the RBI that brought Thompson in.
Anyssa Barbosa then crossed home in the third off a double by
Laura Trehal.
Arledge pitched six innings in game two and took the loss with ten hits and three earned runs; she threw three strikeouts.
Leading the Aggies in hitting against Newman was
Anyssa Barbosa who went 5-12 with one run scored. Arledge led the team in RBI with three followed by Trehal who brought in two RBI. Thompson led the team defensively with 13 putouts from first base.
The Aggies now hold a 7-27 overall record with two Heartland Conference wins. The team faces another conference match-up this weekend at home against the University of Texas-Permian Basin. The four-game series will start Friday at 2 p.m. with a double-header; Saturday's double-header will begin at Noon.
