Box Score 2 Odessa, Texas—The Aggies improved to 12-37 on the season after taking two wins on Tuesday at the University of Texas Permian Basin.
Panhandle State softball scored five runs in the second inning of game one to kick off the 7-3 win, and then cut things close in game two with a seventh-inning tie breaker that brought a 4-3 victory for the doubleheader sweep.
Freshman pitcher
Emily Worley got the win in game one with a complete seven-inning stretch that offered six hits and three earned runs to the Falcons. Worley and the Aggies defense held their opponents through four hitless innings and left seven runners on base for the game.
Seniors
Salina Galindo and
Darcie Wilson each went three of four at the plate in game one, with Galindo collecting three RBI over two innings. Galindo hit a two-run single in the second and an RBI double in the fourth that edged the Aggies into a 6-0 lead. UTPB brought in their first two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added one run in the fifth. Catcher
Madison Heathington helped clinch the win for Panhandle with an RBI single in the sixth.
Permian Basin took an early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning as
Julia Ibarra and the Aggie defense struggled to settle in. With one hit, one walk and two errors the Falcons put runners on base; a passed ball and wild pitch helped push the runs through for UTPB. But, the Aggies regained composure and would not allow the Falcons to score again for the remainder of the game.
Wilson put Panhandle on the board with a sacrifice hit in the third inning, and junior
Faith Guzman drove a two-run double down right field in the sixth to even the score at 3-3. Another sac-fly by Wilson in the seventh claimed victory for the Aggies, as Ibarra and the defense put down three Falcons batters in order to close out the game.
