Bio
Ashley Walyuchow was brought on board as the Athletic Director for the Aggies in July 2026, bringing with him nearly 20 years of experience as an athletic director at Texas A&M University-Victoria (formerly University of Houston-Victoria).
Before OPSU
Walyuchow was the founding Director of Athletics at UHV, having served in that role from 2006 through early 2026. During Walyuchow’s tenure, Jaguar teams won 21 conference championships (split between the Association of Independent Institutions and the Red River Athletic Conference) and made 23 NAIA national tournament appearances.
His UHV career began in 2000 as the development office’s first employee. Eventually, Walyuchow started the athletics program by raising over $200,000 in necessary seed money.
2007-08 marked UHV Athletics’ inaugural season with the launch of the Jaguar baseball and softball teams. In 2010-11, the Jaguars added men’s/women’s golf and men’s/women’s soccer to their offering of intercollegiate varsity sports.
In total, Walyuchow started all six athletic programs from scratch at UHV and developed the Jaguars’ brand, logo, mascot and school colors.
National recognition of Walyuchow’s work includes him being named the 2015-16 NACDA Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year for the NAIA. Walyuchow later earned conference honors as the 2019-20 Red River Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year.
Additional Experience
Past experience in the sports world for Walyuchow includes having served as the Director of Broadcasting for the Lethbridge Black Diamonds, a Minor League Baseball team. He also has been a play-by-play broadcaster for over 20 years, across which he has called games at various levels for the sports of hockey, basketball, baseball and football. Moreover, while at UHV, Walyuchow completed stints on the NAIA National Administrative Council and on the NAIA ADA Board of Directors as vice president and president.
Education
Walyuchow earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Washington State University. While attending WSU, he founded the university’s hockey club and participated in it as a player/coach.
Personal
Walyuchow is a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He resides in Goodwell, Oklahoma, and enjoys cooking, playing golf, reading and traveling in his spare time.
