Arledge with Three Home Runs in Bentonville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Goodwell, Okla.—The Aggie softball team returned from a three-day, six-game tournament in Bentonville, Ark. where they went 1-5 against some hard-hitting teams.

The University of Arkansas-Monticello hosted the 8-State Classic Feb. 14-16 with a total of 29 teams competing.

First up for the Aggies was Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday, Feb. 14. Samantha Arledge started on the mound for OPSU pitching all seven innings taking seven hits and serving three strikeouts. The Aggies were unable to bring in runs in the 4-0 shutout. Rachel Thompson led OPSU in hits with two and contributed five putouts.

The Aggies faced another Oklahoma team Friday afternoon going against the University of Central Oklahoma Lady Bronchos. Bats warmed up for the Aggies as they scored four runs in game two: Lilli Ward was first to cross home in the second inning, Rachel Thompson smacked a home run and brought Salina Galindo in with her in the third, and Kolbi Graves was the fourth Aggies to score in the fourth. UCO's hitters were red hot, however and the Lady Bronchos took the Aggies 17-4.

Taylor Richardson pitched two outs for the Aggies against UCO with Rachel Thompson finishing the game. Thompson led the Aggies in RBI with three and Ashley Duin brought in 1 RBI. Sam Arledge had four putouts from first base.

Day two started a little better for the Aggies as they earned their first win against Drury in a 5-0 shutout. Sophomore Sam Arledge pitched all seven innings taking only four hits and throwing nine stikeouts for the game. Ashley Duin and Salina Galindo crossed home in the second putting the Aggies up 2-0 and Galindo came through again in the fourth with 1 run earned. Madison Heathington crushed a homer in the fifth to bring in Rachel Thompson for 2 RBI.

Heathington led the Aggies with nine putouts and 2 RBI, while Anyssa Barbosa, Lilli Ward, and Taylor Richardson each had 1 RBI.

Rachel Thompson pitched a complete game against Southwest Baptist later Saturday afternoon. SBU came out on top with a 7-3 win over the Aggies who scored all three runs in the sixth inning (Rachel Thompson, Madison Heathington, Lilli Ward). Junior transfer Laura Trehal brought in 2 RBI for the Aggies and freshman Anyssa Barbosa led in fielding with seven putouts.

On Sunday the Aggies faced East Central who put up a 19-4 win over OPSU to start the day. Taylor Richardson started on the mound pitching two innings with eight earned runs. Sam Arledge finished the game taking 15 hits and 11 earned runs. Arledge hit two homers for three RBI and Laura Trehal came through with one run. Catcher Rachel Thompson led the team with four putouts.

The final game of the tournament for the Aggies was against Harding who took a 10-5 victory to close out the day. Arledge was on the mound for four innings with Thompson pitching the final two. Arledge blasted her third home run of the tournament for 1 run. Thompson scored two runs for the Aggies while Anyssa Barbosa and Lilli Ward each scored one.

Arledge brought in two RBI for the game and Thompson and Taylor Richardson each had 1 RBI against Harding. Madison Heathington had four putouts as catcher.

For the series Arledge and Thompson led the Aggies in hitting averaging .389; Arledge totaled 5 RBI with three home runs and Thompson finished with 4 RBI and one homer. The leading pitcher was Arledge who went 1-1 in the tournament with a 7.65 ERA and 16 total strikeouts.

The Aggies now hold a 2-8 overall record and will be on the road for the remainder of February. Aggie fans can watch the team in action at home on March 5 when they host a double-header against Eastern New Mexico.
