OPSU Aggies Struggle against Cameron Aggies

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lawton, Okla.—OPSU Softball traveled to Lawton for a battle of the Aggies in a two-game series against 5th-ranked team in the NCAA South Central Region, Cameron University, on Wednesday afternoon; OPSU suffered run-rule losses in both games.

Utilizing all three pitchers in their arsenal, the Aggies of OPSU spread the work out evenly over both games. Freshman Marissa got the start in game one and went 2.0 innings; three runs came through for Cameron in the first inning, but Cortez made quick work of the CU batters in the second giving up zero hits and zero runs.

OPSU got on the board in the top of the third with a two-run homer from Darcie Wilson to put the visiting Aggies within one run of CU (2-3). A detrimental bottom half of the inning saw nine runners score for Cameron. CU sent three balls over the fence in the first four at-bats prompting the OPSU coaches to send Samantha Arledge to the circle. Arledge finished out the game allowing five runs on three hits; she threw five strikeouts in her two innings on the rubber. Cortez took the loss in game one and CU's Sonora Zuckerman earned her ninth win of the season.

With only one scoring inning for OPSU in the game two, the Cameron Aggies earned their second win of the day by a score 10-2. Taylor Richardson and Arledge each put in two innings with Richardson getting the start. Each pitcher gave up five hits and five runs with Cameron knocking out two home runs apiece against both. The visiting Aggies scored their two runs in the top of the third inning as Darcie Wilson drove her second home run of the day over left field for two RBI. Cameron scored three runs in the first inning, six in the third and one more in the fourth to end the game early. Arledge took the loss for OPSU and Katelyn Craker got the win for Cameron pitching the first three innings.

Wilson had the team's highest slugging percentage averaging 1.600 with two hits in five at-bats, both home runs, for a total of three RBI in the series. Senior Laura Trehal led the Aggies in batting average at .667 going two of three, followed by Salina Galindo who averaged .600 with three hits in five at-bats. OPSU's record now stands at 11-31 for the season and the Aggies own three wins in the Heartland Conference.
