Box Score 3 Lubbock, Texas—While the Aggie baseball team took on the Lubbock Christian men at home, the Aggie ladies were up against the LCU Lady Chaps for a three-game Heartland Conference series on the road Thursday and Friday.
The Lady Chaps made quick work of the Aggies taking all three games in five innings with scores of 11-2, 12-4 and 16-0. OPSU was held to a .259 batting average for the series and .296 slugging percentage as the LCU defense allowed just six runs over all three games.
The Aggies' two runs in game one came in the fifth inning on two singles; the first by
Michaela MacGillivray and the second off the bat of
Brooklyne Bolton.
Taylor Richardson got the start in the circle and took the loss in two innings of work allowing eight runs on seven hits.
Marissa Cortez relieved Richardson in top of the third and finished out the game giving up five hits for three runs (two earned). Richardson and Cortez combined for three strikeouts against the Lady Chaps. LCU took extra bases with two home runs and one double in the game. Courtney McGee earned the win for the Lady Chaps in 3.0 innings giving up four hits and zero runs.
Kelsey Hoppel got the game two victory for LCU closing the final two innings with two hits and one earned run; starter Ashton Bell opened with three hits for three runs in three innings. Aggie pitcher
Samantha Arledge took the rubber and went 4.2 innings; Arledge allowed 12 hits for 12 earned runs and threw five strikeouts on the game. LCU was big at the plate again in game two taking extra bases on three homers and three doubles. The Aggies also earned extra bases thanks to a big triple to center field by
Salina Galindo in the third inning. OPSU brought in three runs in the third and one in the fifth.
Cortez entered game three as the starting pitcher for OPSU and went 2.1 innings before Richardson was sent in on relief duty. Cortez took the loss with 12 runs (seven earned) on eight hits while Richardson allowed four hits for four runs (three earned). McGee earned her 15th win of the season in 3.1 innings allowing just one hit on the game. Once again LCU grabbed extra bases on three doubles and one home run. The Aggies' lone hit came on a single from
Darcie Wilson in the top of the fourth inning.
Galindo led the Aggie batters going four for six in the series with one run scored and one RBI; she averaged .667 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a perfect fielding percentage with two putouts and two assists at third base and left field. Wilson was close behind with a batting average of .600 totaling three hits on five at-bats.
The Aggie ladies drop to 9-28 on the season with one win in the Heartland Conference. They look to improve their record at home this week as they take on Newman University for a three-game series in Goodwell April 10-11.
