Box Score 3 Canyon, Texas—Swept in a three-game series against No. 24 West Texas A&M over the weekend, the Aggies fell by scores of 22-1, 13-1 and 12-2.
The Buffs put up seven runs in Friday's first inning and added ten more in the fourth and five in the fifth; Panhandle's one run came through on the bat of Robert Rodriguez whose RBI single brought in
Joseph Cerda from second base. Pitcher
Dallas Guerrero took the loss for the Aggies after giving up seven earned runs in the first inning.
Saturday's doubleheader saw the Aggies strike first with a lone run in the opening inning. The leadoff batter,
Nate Kelly, reached on an infield error by the Buff's second baseman and scored with the help of a sac bunt by Cerda and an RBI single by
B.J. Henry. The bottom of the first turned out to be the WT's only empty inning, as the Buffs racked up 13 runs over the remaining five innings of the game. Senior Sam Beattie marked his second loss of the season with eight hits and seven earned runs over his 4.1 innings of work.
Down 1-0 going into the second in game two, the Aggies would take their first and only lead of the weekend with three doubles in the inning.
Jake Bowman led off with a double down the left line, and was brought home with one out as
Dehryen Noriega drove another to the left side. One two outs, Noriega scored off a third double by
Chris Schraer. The Buffs came back with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Aggies' starting pitcher
Adrian Lopez did a solid job on the mound in innings three, four and five, allowing only two hits and one run over 11 batters faced; Lopez took the loss after giving up the lead in the second and finished with eight hits and four earned runs over 5.0 innings.
For the weekend, the Aggies totaled 15 hits and four RBI with five errors over the three-game stint; the three doubles in game three were their only hits that went for extra bases. West Texas averaged .484 batting as a team and took 46 hits with 22 going for extra bases; the Buffs knocked out 13 doubles, three triples and six home runs on the series.
Panhandle State Baseball looks to improve on their 2-8 records with a non-conference series against Colorado Christian this weekend. The Aggies will host a doubleheader at Noon on Friday and will complete the match with a single game on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
