Box Score 4 Goodwell, Okla.—Since Wednesday, the Aggies Softball team has been in the capital city of Texas competing in two different series. While Austin can be a fun trip for the sports teams from OPSU, the ladies found no joy during their trip, losing a double header to Huston-Tillotson on Wednesday and then dropping three Heartland Conference games to St. Edwards over the weekend. The team will look to bounce against St. Mary's this weekend with games on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m. and the series finale on Saturday at Noon.
Wednesday started with an 8-3 loss in game one.
Julia Ibarra pitched six innings surrendering 12 hits and eight earned runs. Runs were batted in by Brooklyn Bolton and
Brissa Rivera for the Aggies. Game two saw no improvement as Panhandle State was defeated in five innings by the score of 18-3.
Emily Worley took the loss, lasting three innings before being relieved by Ibarra.
Madison Heathington hit a two-run homer for the Aggies in the third inning to make the score 8-2 after a rough start to the game, but the team was not able to create any momentum afterwards to bring the game back to a competitive score.
After having a day off in the Texas Hill Country the Aggies started the three game series with St. Edwards University with one game on Friday. The game started fast for Panhandle with Heathington again hitting a homerun in the first inning, her sixth of the year, to take the lead. However, the ladies could only muster four more hits on the day, eventually losing the game 8-1. Julie Ibarra pitched six innings in the losing effort, throwing three strikeouts but giving up ten hits and seven earned runs.
On Saturday Panhandle State was shut out in both games of the doubleheader, losing games 5-0 and 3-0. Worley took the loss in six innings of work, giving up eight hits and four earned runs. The Aggies offense provided only five hits, none of which went for extra bases.
Darcie Wilson and
Salina Galindo both had multiple hits in the game. Ibarra then again took the circle for the last game of the series, throwing well for the team. Her effort as well as a strong defensive performance gave the Aggies a chance in game two, but the offensive struggles continued throughout the day with only three hits. Bolton had the only double on the day.
Panhandle State Softball looks forward to playing at home again for the first time in over two weeks, and Coach Mulcahy hopes the Aggie fan base comes out to support the team over the upcoming weekend.
