Goodwell, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team closed the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Bacone College, 9-1 and 10-0, to assure itself of the first winning season in program history. The Aggies' (29-19, 20-16 SAC) completed the four-game series sweep over the Warriors, as well, at Aggie Softball Field.
Much as it was in Friday's doubleheader sweep, Saturday's pair of wins were also both shortened to five innings by the run rule.
Panhandle's pitching duo of
Lindsay Jacobs and
Kaylor Battiest tossed a pair of gems. Jacobs, who was honored as the team's lone senior in pre-game ceremonies, struck out six and walked just one in the final home appearance of her career. Jacobs allowed just three hits, none after the third inning, improving her personal record to 12-6.
In the second game of the day, Battiest won her team-leading 14th game (14-10). Battiest lowered her earned run average to 2.42 with her second shutout and 18th complete game of 2019. She struck out eight Warriors and walked two, permitting just one hit to BC.
In addition to Jacobs and Battiest, the Aggies found a third "gem" in the bat of
Jewell Lee. Lee went 4-for-5 in the twinbill, scoring five runs. She also drove in three and walked twice.
Rightfielder
Abby Gregory was 3-for-4 in the set, scoring four runs and drawing a pair of walks.
Jena Konieczka was 3-for-5 with a triple, one run scored, four RBI and a walk for the day.
Firstbaseman
Kayli Grove continued her hot streak, going a combined 3-for-4, with a double and a triple. She scored three times and collected three runs batted in.
Jaylinn Reyes and
Brissa Rivera each had a triple to their credit, as well, giving the Aggies a SAC-leading 17 three-baggers.
"The girls played hard and played up to their potential all weekend," OPSU Head Coach
Meghan Mulcahy said. "It's a great way to end the regular season and move into conference post-season play. I'm proud of the way they played and that we could cap off the season with wins for Lindsay on Senior Day."
Panhandle State will head into the SAC tournament having won seven of its last nine outings.
