OPSU Hoops falls to rival Langston

GOODWELL, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University basketball teams both battled rival Langston University strong, but in the end both would suffer 10-point losses to the visiting Lions. The Aggie women lost by an 85-75 score, while the men dropped a 77-67 decision.
 
In the women's game, the Aggies had four players score in double digits, leading LU after one quarter, 22-18. Freshman Shay Audrain led OPSU with 16 points, including three treys. Audrain also had seven rebounds, as well as booking team-leading totals in assists (5) and steals (2).
 
Cassia McCaskill's 15 points came via a 5-for 11 shooting effort, canning two baskets from beyond the arc. McCaskill had five rebounds, all on the defensive end.
 
Naomi Rodriguez and Nadia Hayes rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 and 10 points respectively. All of Rodriguez's field goes were three-balls (4-of-5) and Hayes led the Aggies' rebounding efforts with nine.
 
Panhandle held a slight edge in rebounds, 47-45. The Lions converted 23 OPSU turnovers into 14 points.
 
In the men's contest, DK Sumo IV led all scorers with 18 points. Sumo was 6-of-13 shooting, including making all six of his free throw attempts. He also chipped in two assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
 
Teammate Daniel Holyfield was close behind with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Holyfield was an efficient 6-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
 
Thomas Ellis and Quentin Fankhouser scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. Ellis had four assists, while Fankhouser converted 6-of-8 free throws.
 
Jalen Williams led OPSU with five assists.
