Aggies Finish Historic Regular Season

GOODWELL, Okla.  - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie softball team ended their regular season run on a high note. Sweeping the doubleheader over the Southwestern Christian Eagles on Senior Day.

The Aggie bats stayed hot at the plate as they inch closer to the conference tournament. Out hitting the Eagles 31 to 11 on the day and outscoring them 24 to 4. An end to a historic run for the Aggie team as they finish the regular season with a program-best 35-wins. Numerous Aggies also posted single-season records. Kinzie Jones, Kayli Grove, Brielee Danielle, Haley Saur, Sarah Conley, and Rylin Baker all posted a program-best during the season.

Game 1

The Aggies came out ready to swing and the scoreboard would show that. Scoring three or more runs in every inning they saw the plate. Pitching would be just as effective in the contest. Keeping the Eagles to single-digit hits and runs.

Junior Sarah Conley notched the win and the start in game one. Tossing four innings of shut-out softball while striking out six. Rylin Baker would switch places with Conley to close out the game. Facing eight batters in her lone inning of work.

Panhandle State wasted no time in finding the scoreboard against the Eagles. Haley Saur kicked off the day with a single through the left side to be the first Aggie runner of the day. Kayli Grove and Kinzie Jones would load the bases for Kaitlyn Lord to bring home a run off a sac fly. Tatum Trester and Phylzan "Yaya" Jones added two more for the Aggies with a single and a double.

The Aggies would match the four runs in the first in both the second and third innings. Grove and Jones launched back-to-back doubles in the second to extend the Aggie lead to 7-0. Yaya Jones would bring around another with a single of her own in the same inning. Refusing to take their foot off the gas, Chloe Browning led off the bottom of the third with a triple to right field. Saur, Grove, Jones, and Lord would scratch four more for the Aggies, setting them up for another run-rule victory.

With the win in sight, Kinzie Jones would put the stamp on her senior day. Hitting her team-leading ninth home run to put the Aggies up 15-0.

Game 2

The Aggies would not skip a beat heading into their final game of the season. Once again easily dominated the offensive side of the ball to win the series and season finale, 9-1.

Sophomore Kenley Yocom would toss another complete-game victory for the Aggies. Working through five innings of one-run ball. Striking out five Eagles after facing twenty.

The season finale would see nothing but crooked numbers from the Aggies. Getting out early to a three-to-one lead in the bottom of the first. Jones, Grove, and Trester would each be responsible for the Aggie runs in the inning.

After a couple of quiet innings, the Aggies were ready to find the scoreboard again. Grove would start the bottom of the third with a double to left field followed up by a Lord walk. Setting the stage for a Trester three-run home run. Panhandle State continued to put the pressure on the Eagles with five consecutive baserunners and six runs in the inning. Setting up the five-inning run-rule and victory for the Aggies.

The historic regular season comes to an end for the 2022 Aggie Softball team, finishing the season with a 35-12 record. Numerous broken records and the highest conference ranking in program history (3rd).

Panhandle State Softball heads to Chickasha, Oklahoma for the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament scheduled for Thursday, May 5th through Saturday, May 7th.
