The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Equestrian Team kicked off their show season with a remarkable performance at the Southern Nazarene University Spooky Spectacular in Oklahoma City, OK. Competing with nine students in 26 classes, the team brought home an impressive 20 class placings over the weekend.
On Saturday,
Kayla Johnson made an impressive mark in her first-ever Level 1 Ranch Riding class, placing second, followed by a third-place finish in Level 1 Horsemanship.
Sunday proved to be another successful day for the team, as they finished as the third high-point team. A standout performance came from
Eva Johnson, who tied with a student from West Texas A&M University for high point rider. Eva secured this honor after winning the Open Reining class and earning two third-place finishes in Open Horsemanship.
Mitchell Ullom also had a memorable day, claiming first place in the Level 2 Ranch Riding, securing his qualification for the 2025 Regional Championship. His success in the class elevated him to compete in the Open Reining for the remainder of the year.
Other notable placings included
Jolina Demann, who won her Beginner Horsemanship class, and teammates
JJ Cloud and
Katelynn Skinner, who took second and third place, respectively, in Level 1 Ranch Riding.
The OPSU Equestrian Team's outstanding start to the season sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting year ahead.
