The Oklahoma Panhandle State University  Equestrian Team showcased an exceptional performance at the Regional Championship Show, marking a milestone season for the program. Throughout the year, students accumulate points based on their class placings; 36 points are required to qualify for the Beginner through Level 2 regional championship show, and 28 points are needed for the Regional Championship for the Open-level classes. Riders must place in the top two at the Regional Championship show to secure a spot at the Western Semi-Finals Show.

This season, three standout OPSU riders qualified for the Regional Championship Show. Mitchell Ullom was the first to earn his spot, excelling in Level 2 Ranch Riding, advancing him to Open Reining. Jolina Demann followed closely behind, qualifying in Beginner Western Horsemanship and advancing to the Rookie A horsemanship class. Eva Johnson wrapped up her season on a high note by winning the final season show in Open Reining, securing her place at regionals. Johnson also tied for the overall Reserve High Point Rider for the season.

The Regional Championship featured fierce competition, with only the best riders in attendance. Mitchell Ullom delivered a stellar performance in Level 2 Ranch Riding, marking a 77.5 on his pattern without any penalties. His outstanding ride earned him the Regional Championship title, a coveted Molly's Custom Silver Buckle, and a spot at the Western Semi-Finals Show. Eva Johnson followed with another impressive ride in Open Reining, marking a 76 without penalties. Her performance secured her the Regional Championship title, a Molly's Custom Silver Buckle, and a place in the semi-finals. Jolina Demann also put in a strong effort in a highly competitive class, finishing fourth overall in the region, narrowly missing semi-final qualification.

This marks the first time since 2018 that OPSU will send a rider to the Western Semi-Finals and the first Regional Championship title for OPSU since 2015. The Western Semi-Finals will take place in Canyon, Texas, from March 14th to 16th. Qualifiers from seven regions covering 22 states will compete for four spots per class to advance to the National Championship in May.

Coach Kacey Ward expressed her pride in the team's success, stating, "I am incredibly proud to have coached these talented students to such an achievement. Having two regional champions and a third-place regional qualifier is a testament to their dedication and hard work. I can't wait to take them to the semi-finals and see them continue to shine!"

Dean of the College of Agriculture Science and Nursing Tracy Kincannon also praised the team, stating, "I am very proud of the Equestrian Team and their accomplishments this season. Kacey Ward and her team's tremendous work ethic and attention to detail are to be commended, and we are all very proud of them."

With their eyes set on the semi-finals, OPSU's equestrian team continues to demonstrate dedication, perseverance, and excellence in the arena, representing their university with pride.
