GOODWELL, Okla-In the four-game series against the University of the Southwest, the OPSU Aggies softball team shared a split outcome on the first day. The Aggies lost the first game 1-6 but bounced back to win the second game 7-2.
In the opening game,
Toni Shawnee took the mound for the Aggies. Shawnee pitched five and one-thirds innings, allowing six runs off nine hits while striking out seven.
Meagan Bellar got the Aggies on the board with a single in the 3rd inning, bringing the score to 1-0. However, the Mustangs responded in the 4th inning, taking the lead with a double, making it 1-2, and then extending their lead with a single, scoring two more runs to make it 1-4.
In game two,
Kaycee Torres started on the rubber for the Aggies, pitching six innings and allowing nine hits and two runs. The Aggies had a solid offensive performance, with
Gracie Lankford hitting a single in the top of the fourth inning to give them a 1-0 lead.
Marissa Obregon's 3 RBI inside-the-park home run extended the lead to 4-0.
Nicole Peralta's triple in the 5th inning, followed by
Audi Pettaway's double, gave the Aggies a 5-1 lead.
The series will conclude with the Aggies facing off against the Mustangs again, with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
