GOODWELL, OK. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team faced a tough challenge Monday at Jim Quimby Field, dropping both games of a doubleheader to Midland University. The Aggies battled hard but ultimately fell short, losing 12-4 in the opener and 8-0 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Midland 12, OPSU 4
The Aggies started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. Erin Hornback's RBI single plated Trinity Higgins, and Audi Pettaway's groundout brought Hornback home for an early 2-0 lead. However, Midland responded with four runs in the second inning, capitalizing on key hits and OPSU defensive miscues.
Despite a strong showing from Haeley Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, the Aggies struggled to contain Midland's offense. The Warriors tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, including a two-run home run by A. Henderson.
Cadence Yocom took the loss, while Midland's P. Coler earned the win.
Game 2: Midland 8, OPSU 0 (5 Inn.)
The second game proved a more challenging outing for the Aggies, as Midland shut down OPSU's offense and secured the run-rule victory. OPSU managed just two hits, both coming from Trinity Higgins, while Midland erupted for a six-run fourth inning to break the game open.
Marin Jacobs took the loss for the Aggies, while Midland's C. Petrick delivered a dominant performance in the circle.
