GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team wrapped their 2025 season in style on Saturday afternoon, taking the series from the Eagles.
In a wild first game, the Aggies held off a late Eagles rally to earn a thrilling 9-8 victory. Trinity Higgins got OPSU rolling with a two-RBI single up the middle in the second inning, helping the Aggies take an early 2-0 lead. After Southwestern Christian answered with three runs in the third, OPSU erupted for four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a clutch RBI double from Kaylynn Du Preez and an RBI single from Melissa Carroll.
Eagles clawed back with three runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 8-8, but the Aggies stayed balanced. In the bottom of the eighth, Erin Hornback scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error, and pitcher Marin Jacobs shut the door in the top half to secure her 21st win.
Jacobs went the distance in the circle, tossing her 25th complete game, scattering 12 hits while striking out four. At the plate, OPSU collected 12 hits, led by Carroll's 3-for-4 effort and Du Preez's two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI.
In the series finale, the Aggies wasted no time setting the tone. They plated five runs in the first inning, capped by a towering three-run homer to center field from Haeley Vasquez, who knocked home her 50th RBI of the season. OPSU added two more runs in the second and another insurance run in the fourth to build an 8-1 cushion.
Southwestern Christian pushed across two unearned runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies closed out an 8-3 win.
Summer Marron led the offense with two RBIs, including a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and stole home during a wild second inning. Jacobs continued her strong day, adding a two-RBI single in the first inning of game two.
