Aggie Softball Concludes Season After SAC Tournament Loss to Wayland Baptist

CHICKASHA, OK.— The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggie Softball team wrapped up its 2025 season on Saturday, May 3, with a 5-1 loss to Wayland Baptist University in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, hosted in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The defeat, which came in the double-elimination portion of the bracket, marked the end of the Aggies' competitive tournament run.

After picking up a crucial 3-2 victory against Texas Wesleyan University on Friday to stay alive in the tournament, the Aggies advanced to face the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in a Friday night matchup. The nationally ranked Drovers handed the Aggies a tough loss, pushing them into an elimination game against Wayland Baptist on Saturday.

The Aggies struck first in the bottom of the second inning in Saturday's contest. Senior outfielder Hailey Vasquez ripped a double to right field, scoring Madison Carroll from second. Vasquez was thrown out attempting to stretch the hit into a triple, but not before giving OPSU a 1-0 lead.

Wayland Baptist responded quickly, plating two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles from M. Carrillo and B. Araujo. A defensive miscue and a pair of passed balls in the fifth inning allowed the Pioneers to add three more runs, stretching their lead to 5-1. K. Sanchez capped the scoring with a two-RBI single.

Despite outhitting Wayland 8-7, the Aggies couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities, stranding several runners in key innings. OPSU pitcher Marin Jacobs (22-13) was credited with the loss, while Wayland's A. Armstrong earned the win in the circle.

The loss brings the Aggies season to a close, but not without highlighting the team's perseverance throughout a competitive SAC campaign and tournament battle.

The Aggies now shift their focus to the offseason, with several returners expected to build on the momentum and experience gained throughout 2025.
