GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics is excited to announce that current Aggie assistant athletic trainer Rebekah Wiech, MS, ATC, has been selected as its next competitive cheerleading head coach.

Wiech, who joined the athletic training staff ahead of the 2025-26 year, takes the reins of a program that resumed competition last season. The squad ended on a high note, posting its season-best score while finishing fifth of seven teams at the NAIA qualifier hosted by Missouri Baptist on March 16.

"I am very excited to work with this group of performance athletes and to help them achieve their goals for this year. I hope to grow the program and have a positive impact on the gameday experience," Wiech said.

With an extensive background in dance spanning a dozen years, Wiech has worked with renowned choreographers from Big Muddy Dance Company (now Saint Louis Dance Theatre), RESILIENCE Dance Company and Diavolo Dance Theater. Wiech was also a sideline cheerleader in high school, and she collaborated with collegiate-level sideline and competitive cheer programs during her undergraduate at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

There, she obtained her bachelor's degree in dance and theatre, as well as exercise science. More recently, the central Iowa native graduated with her Master of Science in athletic training from Texas A&M University, where she completed clinical rotations with the Texas A&M women's basketball, soccer and dance science programs.

"Rebekah … is devoted to caring for her athletes/performers to the highest level to maintain optimum performance," Jacklyn Bascomb-Harrison, MS, LAT, ATC, associate head athletic trainer at Texas A&M, said. "Her dance knowledge combined with her sports medicine training give her the ability to provide the best care possible. Oklahoma Panhandle State University is lucky to have such a wonderful coach and athletic trainer."

"We're thrilled Rebekah has stepped up to be our next competitive cheer coach," Athletics Director Victor Esparza said. "Her leadership skills and wealth of well-rounded training sets our cheerleading program up for sustainability and growth."

Wiech will continue to serve as an assistant athletic trainer as she adds the title of head cheer coach for the Aggies.
