Win Over Larks Gives Women’s Soccer Best Start in Program History

GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State women's soccer team (3-1) is off to its best four-game start in NAIA program history following Saturday afternoon's 2-1 victory at home over Hesston (2-4-1).

OPSU controlled the pace throughout much of the match, tallying 15 shots compared to the Larks' three. Of the 15 shots taken by the Aggies, 10 of them were in the first half and eight were on goal.

Despite the dominance, the match was scoreless until the final minute of the first half when Joyleen Aleman played a through ball to Yaddelis Alderete, who capitalized on the opportunity with a goal, her first of the season and sixth of her Aggie career.

With Panhandle State leading 1-0, Hesston converted on one of its only true scoring chances in the 57th minute for the equalizer.

It appeared as though the match was headed towards a draw as the clock ticked down, but a foul on Hesston in the box gave OPSU a penalty kick in the 78th minute.

Emily Chavez buried the kick in the right corner for her first game winner as an Aggie, capping off a day in which the junior took a match-high six shots (three on goal).

What's up next: The Aggies have a week off before they travel to face Adams State (2-1-1) in Alamosa, Colorado, on Sept. 21.
