FORT WORTH, Texas — A slow offensive start for Oklahoma Panhandle State men's basketball (3-17, 1-14 SAC) was too much to recover from at RV Texas Wesleyan (15-5, 11-4) Saturday afternoon in a 74-54 loss.
The Aggies misfired on all 10 of their first-half triples as they stared at a 37-20 deficit 19 minutes into the game.
Mike Carter, who tied for a first-half-high 10 points, connected on a jumper in the period's final minute, and
Mykel Lindsey capped off an eight-point half with a pair of free throws to bring the score to 37-24 at the break.
Christian Campbell opened the second half strong to help OPSU climb back within a dozen, 41-29 with nearly 16 minutes remaining.
Texas Wesleyan responded by heating up in a hurry, doubling its lead to 24 just six minutes later.
Panhandle State got improved offensive production from Campbell and
Braedyn Ellison as the game wore on, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
Campbell closed with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block to headline the Aggies' efforts. Carter added 13, and Lindsey grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Atlanta native
Malachi Harris scored the first two points of his OPSU career at the line, as the redshirt freshman guard logged his first minutes of action.
What's up next: The Aggies return home Thursday night to play host to John Brown University (9-11, 6-8), whose game Saturday at Science & Arts was suspended midway through the second half due to a
dunk that broke the backboard.
