GOODWELL, Okla. —The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team (2-7) fell 6-2 to Kansas Wesleyan (1-2) in the series finale Friday at Jim Quimby Field.
A pair of unearned runs early hurt the Aggies, and the bats were never able to come to life, preventing a series sweep for the home team.
After quickly falling behind by a score of 2-0, OPSU got on the board in the bottom of the first on an opposite-field double from
Haeley Vasquez, which drove in
Aaliyah Dang-Gutierrez.
Jazmin Torres put up zeroes over the next two frames, and the Aggies tied it at 2-2 using small-ball in the bottom of the third.
Jules Leach opened the inning with a single and a stolen base, before Gutierrez bunted her over and
Haley Emmerson singled Leach home.
OPSU's bats fell largely silent for the remainder of the day, while Kansas Wesleyan took advantage of free passes and extra-base hits in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring two runs in both frames.
Cassidy Stanhope finished the game batting 2-for-3 to lead the team. In the circle, Torres pitched four-plus innings, allowing two earned runs. Marron closed out the final three innings, also surrendering two earned.
What's up next: The Aggies head to Shawnee, Oklahoma, for the NAIA Invitational from Feb. 20-21, where they will play games against four different opponents.
