GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State softball (5-21, 3-9 SAC) struggled Saturday versus conference powerhouse No. 3 Oklahoma City (19-3, 8-0), losing 11-3 and 13-1 in a pair of five-inning games.
Game 1: OCU put two on the board in the first frame with a two-out, two-run single, but the Aggie bats came out ready to open the doubleheader. OPSU tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning with the first three Aggies all reaching base, as
Summer Marron drove in
Jules Leach with a double and
Rylee Hrbacek singled home Marron.
Marron, who started the opener in the circle, induced three groundouts in a clean second frame, but Panhandle State left two runners aboard as the contest remained tied through two innings.
The Stars made consistent, solid contact in a long, seven-run top of the third, taking advantage of an extra out to score their final four runs in the frame and snag a 9-2 lead.
Kaylee Jund and
Haley Emmerson both singled in the fourth inning to get one run back, but Oklahoma City would score two more unearned runs in the fifth inning to end the game early, 11-3.
Jazmin Torres and
Jordan Johnson combined to pitch the final three frames without allowing an earned run.
Game 2: OCU put up four separate crooked numbers, only going scoreless in the second inning, as it cruised to a lopsided victory.
Vasquez and Leach accounted for virtually all the Aggie offense, combining to go 3-for-3 in the game with Vasquez tallying a double, stealing a base and scoring OPSU's lone run in the fourth inning. Leach stole two bases, ending her doubleheader with three swiped bags.
What's up next: OPSU is back on the road March 20-21 to face Southwestern Christian (11-7, 4-6).
