Early Lead Crumbles as OPSU Swept by Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, Texas. Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball (10-21, 3-15 SAC)was unable to keep a six-run lead in the third gameof the series againstWayland Baptist University (26-11, 12-6 SAC) in a seven-inning, 19-8 loss.
The Aggies came out swinging in the finale, scoring the first three runs of the game.A wild pitch by the Pioneers helped OPSU get going as Jackson Somerville came across to score.
Devin Lopez then singled to leftfield,allowing Julian Payan and Juan Perez to get their first runs of thegame and bring the score to 3-0 enteringthe bottom of the first inning.
WBU got two runs back on a two-out, two-run single in the opening frame, but the Aggies' 3-2 lead held into the third inning. That's when Payan singled, David Garcia hit a double and OPSU plated a pair on an error by Wayland's third baseman to go in front, 5-2.
One inning later, Lopez doubled to right-center and Neugyen Culmer smacked a two-bagger as part of a three-run frame that gave Panhandle State an 8-2 edge.
Unfortunately,the Aggies were unable to keep the momentum going through the rest of thegameas they allowed the Pioneers to score 17 runs over the next three innings. The game ended witha score of19-8after the top of the seventh when the Aggies were unable to cut into the deficit.
Payan and Garcia led the lineup with three-hit games. Lopez and Culmer joined them with multi-hit days, combining to drive in all four RBIs the visitors racked up in the contest.
