A Strong New Squad for the OPSU Cheer Team
June 1, 2015
Goodwell, Okla.Eight spirited athletes were welcomed to the 2015-2016 OPSU Cheer Team this past weekend during open tryouts which were held at the Noble Activity Center on campus.
Tryouts began on Saturday morning as the group of candidates worked throughout the day learning a cheer and dance routine to be performed in groups at Sunday's tryouts. Participants refined their techniques on stunting, tumbling, jumping and motions and showed their best during tryout time.
Four veterans return to the squad and will be balanced with four very strong newcomers. Sophomores Haven Hernandez, Tiffany Molina, Eyvon Pantoja and Elizabeth Vega are a great group of veterans who are excited to have such a talented group joining the team.
Two very athletic freshmen have been added to the squad: Brittany Martinez from Odessa, Texas (Permian High School) brings strength to stunting and has great abilities at jumping and tumbling, and Lakin Winters is a local talent from Texhoma High School where she excelled not only in cheerleading but was also a member of the 2015 State Champion track team.
The Aggies are pleased to welcome back Eduardo Celiz who's incredible athletic ability will be a tremendous asset to the team. Nohely Saenz is another great addition bringing stability to the stunting side and exuding true Aggie Spirit!
Coaches Tiffany Herford and Justine Gaskamp have high expectations of this team and look forward to watching them progress and excel throughout the summer and going into camp. The coaches and candidates voted on team captains during tryouts and selected Tiffany Molina as Captain and Haven Hernandez as Co-Captain.
Aggie fans can look forward to lots of activity on the sidelines this year and plenty of community involvement from the 2015-2016 OPSU Cheer team.
