A Memorable Day at Carl Wooten Field

Goodwell, Okla.In addition to the exciting barn-burner of a football game that Aggie fans witnessed Saturday afternoon, as OPSU beat their long-time rival Langston University 40-35, Carl Wooten Field was all abuzz with special recognitions and an extra-special halftime performance.
Prior to kick off the Oklahoma Panhandle State University HALO club recognized the school's Hispanic student-athletes in honor of Hispanic Heritage month which runs Sept. 15-Oct. 15, and recognizes the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States while celebrating their heritage and culture. OPSU President Dave Bryant was then joined midfield with Langston's president Dr. Kent Smith, Jr. for a special presentation of a football commemorating the 55 years of friendly rivalry between the two schools. Saturday's game marked the 47th contest between the Aggies and the Lions.
OPSU hosted a Military, Law Enforcement and First Responders Appreciation Day in conjunction with the Aggies' home opener football game. The game was sponsored by Chrysler Corner in Liberal who brought two great-looking vehicles to show off outside the gates. The Aggies also gave away free t-shirts with a camo theme to commemorate the event. At halftime an announcement was made and local service members were recognized and honored with applause.
Dr. Bryant was also met on the 50-yard line with members of the OPSU Advisory Committee who were recognized for their contributions and dedication to the betterment of the university and campus community.
The highlight of halftime came when over 40 Little Aggies Cheerleaders took the field to perform a cheer and dance routine they learned that morning at the 2015 Little Aggies Cheer Camp hosted and taught by OPSU's Aggie Cheer team. Children ages 4-11 showed their spirit and earned cheers of their own as they presented the choreographed material complete with stunts.
Aggie fans took pride in their team and university after the game singing and swaying to the Alma Mater and chanting the Aggie Fight Song in celebration of a great victory and a great day for OPSU.
