Aggie Cheer earns Superior Blue Ribbon
July 29, 2019
It may only be the pre-season, as the Oklahoma Panhandle State University competitive cheerleading squad prepares for 2019-20, but good things are already coming to the Aggies' program and first-year Head Coach Audrey Brooks. This past weekend, OPSU's team earned a Superior Blue Ribbon from its National Cheerleading Association (NCA) collegiate camp.
The "camp" was not a competition versus other schools that begins in the fall but rather a "boot camp", of sorts, for the Aggies. A pair of certified NCA coaches put the OPSU contingent through their paces in the private session, focusing on growing their skills, raised the levels of pyramid stunts, chants, cheers, jumps, tumbling, and most importantly, team bonding.
"They were inspiring and professionally skilled, and will be returning to coach at OPSU Cheer's 2020 Collegiate NCA Camp," Brooks said. "We will be inviting collegiate teams to participate. We will also be growing the NCA High School Camp and expanding the experience to include Cheer Business and Coaching Workshops.I am instilling a Cheer Coaching Program for my athletes. Several Aggie Cheerleaders are preparing to be certified as AACCA Stunt Coaches and will be available to work with regional high school and junior high teams.
"This season is going to be successful and inspiring."
Brooks' goal for the Panhandle State cheer squad is to develop the entire individual. While the team will work to show well in competitions, she also plans to help them grow as young adults. Brooks' plan is to help the team learn in such areas as community involvement, dress and make-up tips, modeling techniques, social media skills, nutrition and proper study skills.
