Saengvut, Thammachokecharoen Fire Matching One-Under Rounds at Carmichael Cup

SALINA, Kan., With rounds one and two canceled Monday due to rain, the Oklahoma Panhandle State men's golf team took to Salina Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday for the shortened 18-hole Carmichael Cup hosted by Bethany College.
Despite a pair of under-par scorecards leading the way, OPSU's team score wound up at a 23-over, 303 on the soggy par-70 track. The tally put the Aggies in a tie with Ottawa (Kan.) for eighth place out of 11 squads, as Park (Mo.) won the event with a score of two-under par.
Thantup Saengvut and Worathan Thammachokecharoen each carded a one-under 69 on the day to finish tied-sixth out of 67 individuals, two strokes off the medalist's pace.
Thammachokecharoen extended his stretch of superb play (the senior has shot four-under over his last 44 competition holes) with a steady round of two bogeys and three birdies.
Saengvut, meanwhile, lit up the back nine with a three-under 32 after he bogeyed two of his first four holes in the shotgun-start format.
While very pleased with the play of his seniors hailing from Thailand, head coach Zach Homer is looking to get more out of his collective group.
"It's early in the season, but some of these other guys need to wake up and get onboard," Homer said.
Paul Mercado and Xavyer Mosqueda shot an 82 and 83, respectively, to complete the Aggies' scoring.
Competing as an individual, Takudzwa Basopo recovered from a slow start to turn in a round of 80.
What's up next: The Aggies look to improve as the fall season continues on Sept. 22-23 for the Central Plains Invite hosted by Kansas Wesleyan at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
