Men's Soccer 2023 Season Wrap Up

Oklahoma Panhandle State University Men's Soccer team concluded their 2023 season, and despite some challenges, they showed their resilience and potential for the future. With a season record of 5-9-1 overall and 1-8 in conference play, the Aggies displayed determination and notable accomplishments throughout the season.
The Aggies' most significant highlight came early in the season on September 15 when they traveled to face Division 2 Adams State and secured a remarkable 1-0 victory. The lone goal was masterfully delivered by Mauricio De Santiago, demonstrating the team's ability to compete at a high level.
OPSU continued to shine on Senior Day, defeating Texas Wesleyan with a score of 3-2. The Aggies' goals came from David Vargas, Darrell Yetedj, and Frank Mutandi, showing the team's offensive prowess when it mattered most.
Throughout the season, the Aggies were led by standout players Juan Balbin and Mauricio De Santiago, each contributing three goals. The team's playmakers, Mauricio De Santiago, David Rubio, and Zane Doehring, shared the role of leading the team with two assists each.
The Aggies' goalkeeping squad put up a strong performance this year, recording a total of five shutouts. Aaron Smith proved to be a formidable presence in the net with 44 saves and an impressive save percentage of .772, while Olai Caicoya contributed 24 saves with a save percentage of .667.
In non-conference play, the Aggies excelled with a remarkable 4-1-1 record, demonstrating their competitiveness beyond the conference matchups.
