Aggie Cross Country Wraps Up Season at Regionals

Denver, Colo.On Saturday, Nov. 5 the Panhandle State men's and women's cross country teams traveled to their last meet of the season, the 2016 NCAA South-Central Regional Championships hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver at Washington Park in Denver.
The Aggie men competed in a field of 28 teams and 193 runners with Panhandle's best time coming from freshman Philip Kirongo who clocked a ten-kilometer time of 36:05 to place 145th overall. Calvin McKinney-41:37, Aaron Hammett-41:49, Cameron Hammett-43:07, Jacob Mireles-43:08 and Firas Ghazouani-44:52 finished out together taking places 183-187 individually. As a team the men came out 28th with an average 10K time of 41:08.73.
Colorado School of Mines earned the team title for the men's race, averaging a team time of 31:43.34. Runner Sydney Gidabuday of Adams State took first place overall with an individual finish of 31:28, just two seconds ahead of Mines' leading runner Nathanael Williams who finished 2nd in 31:30.
Panhandle's women runners entered with 26 other teams from throughout their region taking 27th place as a team in the six-kilometer race (37:54.07 average). Leading the way for the Aggie women was freshman Sunaed Ramirez who placed 177th with a finish time of 33:59. Following for the Aggies were Jasmine Brown-Jutras-34:49, Brileigh Murphree-39:15, Shelby Perry-40:45 and A.J. Husband-40:45 who placed 178th, 180th, 181st and 182nd respectively.
The women's team title went to Adams State who averaged a 6K team time of 22:26.62. Individually, Mercy Rotich of Eastern New Mexico topped the list finishing the race in 21:47.
The Aggies have improved throughout the season and will continue their work in the spring when they prepare for the 2017 season ahead.
