Cross Country Competes at WT

Canyon, TexasSaturday morning the Panhandle State cross country teams got an early start as they headed to West Texas A&M University for the Buffalo Stampede.
The Aggie men were among four teams competing in the eight-kilometer race at The Range outdoor course. Sophomore Philip Kirongo turned in the fastest time for the team, taking 18th place out of the 31 runners with 29:20.62. The four other Aggies finished in a pack with Aaron Hammett (33:25.06), Firas Ghazouani (34:09.14), Cameron Hammett (35:11.10) and Jacob Morales (35:11.24) ranking 28-31. As a team Panhandle State placed fourth with an average time of 33:27.44. WT took the team title averaging 27:09.89, and Omer Aimog of Eastern New Mexico finished first individually with a time of 26:33.50.
Four runners laced up for the Aggie women in a field of 19 runners. The Aggies were one runner shy of marking a team score with junior Purity Jeplieting placing 12th in the 6K with a time of 26:52.17. Naomi Rodriguez clocked 28:17.41 followed by Sarai Ortega and Kiery Fernandez with times of 30:36.40 and 31:54.70 respectively. WT's women also earned first place as a team with an average time of 24:2.47; Erman Jepleting of West Texas placed first with and individual time of 23:04.99.
The Aggies last regular-season meet will take place on Oct. 21 in McPherson, Kan. hosted by Southwestern Christian University.
