Goodwell, Okla The OPSU Aggies men's and women's cross-country teams delivered solid performances at the Highlands University XC Jam, hosted by New Mexico Highlands University.
In the women's 5000m race, Carolina Valenzuela led the Aggies at 21:56, securing 16th place. Close behind, Carla Tiniguar Tum crossed the finish line at 24:22.
The men's team saw top finishes, with Trevor Youngblood placing 5th overall with a time of 24:46. Josh followed in 7th place, recording a time of 25:07. Rounding out the men's results, Bramhan Matschek and Arturo Vallejo finished 12th and 13th, respectively, with times of 27:12 and 27:20.
After the meet, head coach Cyrus Hall mentioned, "I thought we had a fantastic day today. Very small, low key meet. Perfect for us to get some work in. Perfect overcast weather as well.
We didn't really know what we had with our women. They've really just been doing easy runs. The crushed it today! I am very excited about how well they ran at altitude in their first 5k. They've got potential to do some big things by the end of the season!
I thought the men were equally as good. We have really been emphasizing that they run under control early and not get out of control. They did that today and it really paid off with some awesome performances. Trevor was the only guy to run here last year. He ran 2 minutes faster this year. That is great progress.
We will get back to work on Monday and head back to New Mexico to run at ENMU next week".
The Aggies will next compete at the Greyhound Invite, which Eastern New Mexico University will host on October 5th in Portales, New Mexico.
