October 5, 2024
Goodwell, OklaThe Aggies men's and women's cross-country teams traveled to Portales on Saturday morning to compete in the Greyhound Invite hosted by Eastern New Mexico University.
On the women's side, the Aggies ran the 6k course. Carolina Valenzuela led the way, finishing 12th overall at 26:55. Behind her, Carla Tiniguar Tum secured 15th place, clocking in at 27:11.
In the men's 8k race, Trevor Youngblood finished 4th overall with a time of 29:10. Joshua Samaron followed, placing 11th at 30:54. In contrast, Arturo Vallejo finished 14th with a time of 32:08. Bramhan Matschek rounded out the Aggie finishers in 17th place at 32:32.
After the meet head coach Cyrus Hall noted "The women ran decent today. They just had to overcome some coaching errors on my part that held them back a little. They will look much sharper in a couple weeks.
The men ran ok. We didn't see the times we were hoping for, but I thought Trevor and Arturo ran solid races. But overall the men looked lethargic. I probably overdid their training a little this week. And that probably led to them looking sluggish. Hopefully after a couple decent weeks of training we can bounce back in and see the improvement we are looking for."
The Aggies will continue their season at the Mid States Classic, hosted by Southwestern College (Kan.), on October 26 in Winfield, KS.
