Womens Rodeo Dominate Despite Frosty Conditions at Fort Scott

Panhandle State's women's rodeo team dominated at Fort Scott Community College led by Women's All-Around winner, Mckenna Brennan, to bring home the women's team title. The men's team was led by senior, Kelly Murnion, who won the Men's All-Around title putting the team in a fifth-place finish.
Junior, Mckenna Brennan, had a remarkable weekend splitting the win for the All-Around title making it back to the short go in both Breakaway and Goat Tying. Brennan split second and third in the long round of the Breakaway with a 2.7-second run. She was joined in short go by senior, Hope Lutrell, who split eighth, ninth, and tenth to make it back. Brennan and Lutrell split third and fourth in the short go with a 3-second run. Brennan ended up splitting second and third overall for the weekend while Lutrell grabbed fourth place.
In the Goat Tying, Brennan split fifth and sixth in the long round with fellow Aggie, Kelsey Hallin, with an 8.5-second run. Brennan came for the win in the short go stopped the clock at 7.2-second to win the round and the average for the weekend. Hallin stumbled in her run resulting in fifth place in the round and average.
Senior, Beau Peterson, was the lone ranger for the women's team in the Barrel Racing. Peterson placed seventh in the long go to get another run on Sunday. In the short go, she made a consistent run of 13.21- seconds to place sixth in the round and the average.
Kelly Murnion led the way for the men's team making it back to the short round in the Bareback Riding and Bull Riding. Murnion dominated the Bull Riding winning the long round with an 81-point ride which led to his win in the average. He snuck into the short go with a tenth place finish in the Bareback Riding, but stay focused marking 69-points in the short go to finish sixth in the round and the average.
Staying at the bucking chutes, five Aggies made it back in the Saddle Bronc Riding led by seniors Ira Dickinson, Cooper Thatcher, and Ean Price. Dickinson marked the highest for the Aggies with a 77-point ride placing second while Thatcher and Price were hot on his heels placing third and fourth in the long go. Freshmen, Caleb Newell and Cody Cavender made it back with their seasoned teammates placing seventh and tenth respectively. Unfortunately, the Aggies had a hard time in the short go failing to make the 8-second buzzer. Despite the bad luck, Dickinson finished fourth overall, with Thatcher, Price, and Newell finishing fifth, sixth, seventh, and Cavender rounded in out in tenth place.
Dickinson showed his talent as an All-Around cowboy making it back in the Steer Wrestling with fellow senior, Quint Bell. Bell has stayed consistent this spring placing third in the long round with a 5.2-second, and Dickinson just behind him splitting fifth and sixth. In the short go, both stayed determined on tougher draws. Bell placed fourth in the short go which led him to second in the average while Dickinson placed seventh moving him to sixth overall.
Trevor Meier, a senior, snuck into the short go with a tenth place finish in the long round of the Tie-Down Roping. Meier came in Sunday motivated to gain average points as he placed fifth moving him up to sixth in the average.
Freshman, Colt Cunningham, placed seventh in the Team Roping with his partner Austin Huwa of Western Oklahoma State College. Together they came up with a no-time in the short go but still were able to finish seventh in the average.
Panhandle State's cowboys and cowgirls took time over spring break to regroup and took a couple of days to learn for one of the best in the business, Kory Koontz. The team will continue to build off that school and practice before the next rodeo at Garden City Community College on April 1.
