OPSU Rodeo Stumbles At SEOSU
Panhandle State cowboys and cowgirls make a long trip home from Durant after stumbling at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University rodeo. Women's team placed seventh overall while the men's team come at ninth.
Senior, McKenna Brennan, got the ball rolling for her final year in the Goat Tying. She placed second on a long score with a 7.7-second run in the first round. Brennan showed her ability to make a smart run in the short go with 8.6-second placing fourth which put her second in the average for the weekend.
Upperclassmen, Bailey Small and Brett Coffman, made the presence at the bucking chutes known for the Saddle Bronc Riding. Small, a senior, won the long round with a 74-point ride, but fell short of the buzzer in the short go leaving him fifth in the average. Junior, Coffman, placed fifth in the long go to make it back under the Saturday night lights. With his focus and a good draw, he marked 74-points placing second in the round and in the average.
Junior, Eli Barger, paired up with Austin Huwa from Western Oklahoma State College in the Team Roping. With a 8.5-second run in the long go splitting ninth and tenth, they were the underdogs coming into the short round. Huwa and Barger knew they needed to rope fast and smart which they did with a 7.8-second run to place second in the go and put them third in the average.
The Aggies will spend the week practicing before hosting their Justin Harrington Memorial jackpots October 8th and 9th. The team looks forward to having peers, alumni and community back at the Doc Lynn Gardener arena to celebrate the life of Justin Harrington.
Panhandle State rodeo team will hit the road again to Stillwater on October 13th with hopes of success.
