Womens Rodeo Has SPOOKTACULAR Success at NWOSU
Panhandle State celebrated Halloween weekend with a women's team title, and two individual event wins while the men's team finished seventh overall.
Senior, McKenna Brennan, made her final appearance in the Alva doom one for the books of her collegiate career winning the All-Around title for the weekend.
Brennan, a 2022 CNFR qualifier, reminded everyone what she was capable of with a full sweep in the Goat Tying. She won the long round with the fastest run of the weekend 5.8-seconds, won the short go, and the average. She was joined by teammate, Parker McIntyre, who was sitting fourth in the region going into it. McIntyre stayed smooth placing third in the long round with a 6.5-second run and split fourth and fifth in the long go. Her steady pace led her into a three-way split in the average for third through fifth.
Brennan made it back in the Breakaway Roping in the last hole making her an underdog coming back into the short go. She kept her eye on the prize roping her calf in 2.6-seconds to win the short go and split the win in the average.
Seniors, Kelsey Hallin and Aby Black made their final trip to Alva in a small pattern worth in the Barrel Racing. Hallin placed fourth with a 13.35-second run and Black was a tick behind her with a 13.40-second run placing sixth. Black kept all three barrels standing with 14.11 seconds which placed ninth in the short go, but too long to place in the average. Hallin hit a barrel giving her a 5-second penalty and placing her bottom of the pack.
The men's team had some good luck at the bucking chutes in the Saddle Bronc Riding. Brett Coffman, a junior, went in winning the region and stayed consistent all weekend. He placed fourth in the long round with 67-points, sixth in the short go, and fifth in the average. Senior, Jake Benham, looked to add his name to the leaderboard by placing fifth in the long round. Benham went on to mark 74-points in the short go to place third and that put him fourth in the average.
At the roping chutes, senior, Bailey Small, was the lone Aggie in the Tie-Down Roping. Small was 11-seconds splitting ninth, tenth, and eleventh in the long round. With some bad luck in the short go, Small left the arena with no time.
In the Team Roping, junior, Bryson Carroll, and his header from Garden City Community College, Brandy Walton, looked bright-eyed after their 6.2-second run to place third in the long round. Unfortunately, they took a no time under Saturday night's lights in the doom.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University's rodeo was the last one of the semester for the rodeo team. With the domination of the Lady Aggies, Panhandle State will end the semester sitting third in the region as a team.
In the Breakaway Roping, Tori Kunz sits third in the region just 65-points from the lead while McKenna Brennan splits ninth in the region only 35-points behind teammate Kunz.
Brennan and Parker McIntyre are sitting second and third in the region for Goat Tying with only a 95-points difference between first and third. Kelsey Hallin and Aby Black are ranked in the region at tenth and twelfth respectively, and looking to come on strong in the spring.
The men's team has faced some injuries throughout the semester leaving them at seventh in the region.
Brett Coffman fell to third in the standings but is only 25-points behind the leader. Bailey Small, Caleb Newell, and Jake Benham are still in the fight with seventh, eighth, and eleventh in the standings.
Bull Rider, Lalo Aguilar, sits second in the region just 50-points behind the leader.
Eli Barger and Bryson Carroll both heel for headers from different schools in the Team Roping, but they got their names in on the leaderboard in the ninth and fourteenth standings.
Panhandle State cowboys and cowgirls will continue to practice through the winter, and come back with a fresh breath for Kansas State University's rodeo on February 16th. During their off-season, they will prepare for their annual Top Hand Auction to raise money for their team.
