OPSU Shows Late Fight Versus Flying Queens

GOODWELL, Okla. Oklahoma Panhandle State women's basketball (3-5, 0-3 SAC) was defeated 70-47 Tuesday night versus Wayland Baptist (2-5, 2-1).
A competitive first quarter gave way to a dominant stretch from the visiting Flying Queens through the middle portions of the contest, which allowed them to cruise to victory.
La'Tommas Johnson-Nash, Mar'kia Pratt and Tryssa Dowd all had their offensive games working in the opening period, with Dowd twice putting the Aggies up by a deuce.
WBU led 15-13 after one, however, and it pulled away quickly with a 28-8 advantage in the second quarter.
Behind 61-29 entering the fourth frame, OPSU showed no quit. Lyric Carpenter made a pair of buckets in the middle of the quarter, and Breya Beck scored the game's final five points the last of which was set up by Morgan Earle's steal.
Pratt finished with a team-high 13 points and game-high four assists. Johnson-Nash was active throughout the night with eight points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Defensively, Dowd closed with a career-high four blocks, while Emily Bray and Heidi Rodriguez each recorded two steals.
