Black enters the 2026 season in his second year as an assistant coach at Panhandle State. He works closely with the infielders and hitters while also serving as a recruiting coordinator.
In addition to his coaching duties at OPSU, Black has been named the head coach of the Fort Collins Foxes for 2026, which plays in a high-quality Northern Colorado collegiate summer league. He also spent the summer of 2025 as an assistant for the Waynesboro (Va.) Generals in the Valley League.
Prior to his time with the Aggies, Black spent two seasons coaching infielders and catchers for the University of New Mexico softball team. In 2022, he began his coaching career working with hitters and catchers at Stephen F. Austin.
A highly accomplished collegiate baseball player, Black spent four years playing for NCAA Division I-affiliated Stephen F. Austin after beginning his collegiate career in 2017 at Eastfield College, where he earned first-team all-conference honors. At SFA, Black earned NSCA All-America honors in 2020 and Second-Team All-Southland Conference honors in 2021. He carried a .283 batting average during his final two years with the Lumberjacks while slugging at least .879 during both years. Black also has professional playing experience in the Pioneer League with the Missoula Paddleheads.
Black earned a bachelor’s degree in health science from SFA in 2019, and he completed his Masters degree in education there in 2021. Black is married to his wife, Shelley, and they live with their two dogs, Lucy and Stryker.
