OPSU Homecoming Football Game

Goodwell, Okla.—The week of Oklahoma Panhandle State University homecoming festivities will wrap up Saturday, Oct. 12 with the Aggie football game vs. Texas College; kickoff set for 1 p.m.

After three weeks on the road, the Aggies (2-4) are ready to be back in front of a home crowd for this week's match-up against the Texas College Steers (1-3). The Aggies are looking to build on the momentum from their 62-21 victory over Wayland Baptist last week and would like to continue their offensive success after their impressive efforts in Plainview where they brought in over 700 total yards on offense. Quarterback Caleb Holbrook blew through the 1000-yard mark against Wayland and currently owns 1167 yards passing and 176 rushing thus far; he will have help again this week from the offensive line consisting of center Cole Wills, guards Marcus Dimando and Allston Hadley, and tackles Guerrero Garcia and Diego Arenas. Rickey Backstrom and Jamal White will start at the receiver position with Spencer Grijalva stepping in at tight end. Running backs Chris McClendon and Justin Fogle will be backed up by Kameron Young and Rod Moore who have proven themselves on the field averaging 4 yards per carry each.

The Darkside Defense of OPSU got off to a slow start last week but didn't take long to tighten up and take control shutting out the Pioneers completely in the second half. The Aggie D-line will be anchored by defensive ends Glenn Bonner and Allen Maxime with Cortney Stinnet at nose guard; the trio has combined for five sacks so far this season. Linebackers Andrew Dougherty, Tanner Hallford, Kris Kelley, and Isaia Vimoto look to add to their combined 109 tackles for the season. Covering downfield for the Aggies this week are corners Jamel Major and Keidrick Brewster and safeties Xazier Murry and Domonique Guest who are responsible for a combined 11 pass breakups thus far. Special teams will be led by kicker Carlos Nieto, punter Antonio Mendoza, and Gabriel Ortega on the kickoffs.

A Homecoming Pep Rally will take place Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. on Carl Wooten Field to start revving up the spirit for Saturday's game. There will also be plenty of pre-game activities on Saturday beginning with the 2013 Homecoming parade around the OPSU campus at 10:30 a.m.; an alumni BBQ in the OPSU Bell Tower Plaza at 11 a.m. and the Aggie Volleyball Alumni Match in the Oscar Williams Field House at 11 a.m. Football kicks off at 1 p.m. with half-time festivities including honored family recognition and homecoming royalty coronation.

Aggie fans don't forget to bring your own seat and join the on-field action in the Mazzio's Zone! Coach Gaskamp wants to see both the stands and the Mazzio's Zone packed to capacity and rowdier than ever!
