Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—The Oklahoma Panhandle State University volleyball team played with heart Friday evening but fell short in a four-set match against Heartland Conference rival Newman University (10-6).
The Aggies (3-15) got off to a slow start in set one losing to the Lady Jets 15-25. Set two saw a determined Aggie team who, despite strong performances by
Makayla Barrett (five kills) and
Sarah Koster (four service aces), came out with a 22-25 loss. The Aggies would not back down and came in to set three ready to fight, holding Newman to .136 hitting percentage, breaking out of nine tie-scores, and winning the set 25-16. Set four was another great back-and-forth with six ties and three lead changes, but in the end Newman would come out with their third and final win beating the Aggies 25-20.

Skylar Mayeux brought in a season-high 33 assists and
Sarah Koster tied her season-high for service aces with five. Junior outside hitter
Brittany Dubberstein led the team in kills with a total of 13 followed closely by Barrett who managed 10 total kills against the Lady Jets. Koster and Dubberstein also led in points with 12.5 and 13.5 respectively.
Nicole Fournier and
Kayla Schwartz shared the libero duties with Fournier starting in the first set and Schwartz finishing out sets two through four.
The Aggies are home again next week to continue conference play as they take on Dallas Baptist University on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in a Pink Out match in support of breast cancer. On Saturday, Oct. 19 they will play the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith at Noon. Both matches will take place in the Oscar Williams Field House.
