Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—The Oklahoma Panhandle State University women's basketball team got their season started on Saturday as they took on Cameron University in a hard-fought battle that fell short of victory for the Aggies.
Both teams started the day with a clean slate and 0-0 records ready to see how well the pre-season would pay off. The Aggies fired first and scored on a three-point attempt from senior
Sarah Johnson off of a missed CU layup and Aggie rebound by
Hannah Tatum. The Aggies would tie the game up three times in the first half before foul troubles started setting in. The half ended with Cameron leading 33-25 landing 42.9% of their field goals and shooting lights- out 80% at the free throw line. OPSU ended the half shooting 9 of 33 in field goals and averaging 60% in free throws.

Brittany Alavinejad off an assist by
Sarah Johnson. The Aggies were down by seven when
Hannah Tatum and
Meagan Bell turned up the heat with three good jumpers (Tatum) and a three-pointer (Bell) narrowing the gap to just two points. Sophomore
Brittany Alavinejad then closed the gap tying the game at 37-37 with a successful layup attempt in the paint. Foul troubles soon reappeared as both
Sarah Johnson and
Sharice Papaleo would foul out in the final minute of play and the game ended in favor of Cameron 73-61.
Cameron ended making 21-55 field goals and only 2-13 at the three-point range; they averaged 69% at the free-throw line. The Aggies came out shooting 30.2% in field goals, 25% in three-pointers, and 66.7% in free throws, but fouls were what hurt them most totaling 27 as a team.
Brittany Alavinejad led in scoring with 17 points with
Meagan Bell close behind contributing with 12. Junior
Rosa Quinonez was perfect from the free-throw line making 4-4 and senior
Sharice Papaleo brought down an impressive 12 rebounds.
The Aggies stay home for their next match-up against Adams State on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
