OPSU Volleyball Coach Receives AVCA Scholarship

Goodwell, Okla.—Assistant volleyball coach Tiana McCowan will represent Oklahoma Panhandle State University at the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention in Seattle, Wash.

The AVCA recently awarded McCowan a Minority Coaches Scholarship along with an invitation to attend the AVCA Minority Coaches Clinic at the annual convention taking place Dec. 18-22. The scholarships are funded by NCAA grants and are offered to minority women intent on pursuing volleyball coaching at an NCAA institution as a head or assistant coach.

McCowan submitted the scholarship application in October and was one of a limited number of applicants who were honored with the award. The scholarship will cover registration costs which include one year of membership in the AVCA. OPSU will provide an additional $500 to help cover any remaining expenses.

This opportunity will allow McCowan to interact with others who have had success at all levels of coaching, and is a unique opportunity to develop professional skills and become a better coach and leader. The AVCA Annual Convention also offers limitless networking and educational opportunities for all who attend.

OPSU Athletic Director Dr. Wayne Stewart proudly supports Coach McCowan saying, "She is a good person, a good coach, and a blessing for OPSU."

Congratulations to Coach McCowan and safe travels to the entire OPSU volleyball staff on their trip to Seattle.
