Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—The Aggie men's basketball team put up another great effort Sunday afternoon as they took on Arlington Baptist College of the National Christian College Athletic Association.
Aggie fans were hungry for another win following Saturday's victory over Rogers State but despite tremendous second-half efforts, the Aggies came away with an 84-79 loss to ABC.
The first half was a back-and-forth shootout through the ten minute mark when ABC hit a three to take a one-point lead. The Patriots then took advantage at the free-throw line earning ten points off Aggie fouls. At halftime the score was 44-34 in favor of the visitors. The Patriots shot 17-21 in free throws compared to the Aggies' who only had ten chances at the line in the first half.
The Patriots started the second half with a pair of three-pointers and racked up two more points from the line increasing their lead to 18 with only two minutes off the clock, but the Aggie baskets warmed up and OPSU cut the lead to nine with 13 minutes still remaining. In the end it came down to free-throws and ABC continued their streak at the line making 14-15 throughout the rest of the game. The Aggies tied things up at 77-77 in the final two minutes, but were only able to find the basket once and took a disappointing loss on their home court.
Z. Jones really turned up his game in the second half scoring 18 of his 20 points after halftime. Jones shot 50 percent from the field and contributed seven total assists; he also grabbed three steals.
Krys Randolph and
Tavien Rosemond stood out as well scoring 16 and 13 points respectively. Rosemond also led the Aggies in rebounds with seven.
Coach Olson was happy to play on their home court again, and was really proud of the men's win Saturday to one of the top teams in our conference saying, "It shows what you can do when you focus for 40 minutes."
On Sunday's game Olson had this to say: "I feel that we were outplayed in the first half and that ABC gave a better effort than we did. I am really pleased with our second-half comeback and how we gave ourselves a chance to win; we just kept playing. Defensively, we followed our game plan in the last eight minutes and made it tough for them to score, but it's hard to guard the free-throw line and the fouls hurt us."
The Aggies continue conference play on the road this week as they travel to Oklahoma City to play Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, Jan. 16 and then head to Dallas, Texas on Saturday, Jan. 18 to take on Dallas Baptist.
