Box Score 2 Wichita, Kan.—The OPSU men's and women's basketball teams both suffered conference losses to Newman University on Saturday, Jan. 4 in Wichita, Kan.
The Aggie women took a 20-point loss to the Lady Jets with a final score of 68-48. The Aggies were only down by seven points at halftime and held the Lady Jets to a single-digit lead through the 13-minute mark of the second half. The top scorers for the Aggies were
Sarah Johnson and
Hannah Tatum with 16 and 14 points respectively. Tatum also led in rebounds with a total of six and Johnson contributed six assists. The women's record drops to 0-13 overall and 0-7 in the Heartland Conference.
Newman's men took control early and went up 11-0 on the Aggies after two minutes of play. The Jets held the lead the entire game and came out with a 97-83 victory at home. The Aggies had three men scoring in double-digits;
Jeremy Newton led with 23 points followed by
Bill Lee and Z. Jones who scored 17 and 13 points respectively. Lee led the team in rebounds with eight and
Krys Randolph led in assists with seven. The men are now 0-11 overall and 0-3 in conference.
The Aggies are at home this week starting with a double-header on Thursday, Jan. 9 against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
