Hard Competition for Aggie Volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Goodwell, Okla.— OPSU played two Heartland Conference matches at home last week against the University of Texas-Permian Basin and the number one team in the Heartland Conference, Lubbock Christian University.

Thursday's UTPB match was also OPSU's pink-out game which fired up the Aggies and sparked their determination and dedication. The Aggies started hard and battled as the lead went back and forth throughout the match. OPSU went down 16-25 in the first set with a close second set of 22-25. The match ended with a loss in the third set of 17-25. Serving seemed to be the strong point for OPSU with seven aces for the match; three from Nicole Fournier and two each from Dejiana Rubio and Tayler Burzette. The Aggies had a team total of 30 digs and 24 kills.

On Friday the Aggies competed against the number one team in the Heartland Conference. LCU proved to be tough competition as the Aggies came up short losing in three: 11-25, 13-25, 16-25. OPSU totaled 18 kills with 12 of them coming from Shaina Eddings and Dejiana Rubio. Julia Ibarra lead the team in digs having ten of the 35 total.

OPSU will be traveling to Austin, Texas for two games this week. The first will be against Huston-Tillotson College on Wednesday, Oct. 22 followed by a conference game against St. Edwards University on Thursday, Oct. 23. Both matches will begin at 7:00 p.m. and can be viewed online by going to the Aggies' volleyball schedule.

Aggie fans can start preparing for the Aggie Volleyball Halloween Spiketacular during the next home game against Texas A&M-International on Thursday, Oct. 30. The match starts at 7 p.m. with fun and games taking place throughout the evening including a costume contest between the second and third sets with cash prizes for each of five categories. Bring your Aggie spirit!
