Goodwell, Okla.—The Oklahoma Panhandle State football team has been on a roll after winning five consecutive games, including a much needed victory over a tough Bacone College team that has been lending the Aggies losses for the past three years. With the monkey finally off their back, the Aggies focus their attention this week toward the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions. The game will be held this Saturday, October 25 at 2 p.m. on the gridiron of Carl Wooten Field.
The Lions are 2-4 on the season and have been pounding the rock with starting running back Eddie Bailey Jr., who has produced 974 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. The Aggies' front seven will be put to the test in order to shut the Lions' running game down.
For the Aggies, three offensive players have a chance to meet milestones. Quarterback
Caleb Holbrook lacks only 36 passing yards to reach 2,000 yards on the season, running back
Chris McClendon has a chance to break 1,000 yards rushing while currently sitting at 839, and wide receiver
Zacari Lavender can break 500 receiving yards on the season with just an additional 62 yards. With a 5-2 record, the Aggies continue to make history as they have already surpassed 300 total points on the year, and will no doubt look to increase that total this Saturday.
Aggie fans are encouraged to come early to enjoy the 8th Annual OPSU Chili Cook-off which will take place in the parking lot east of the stadium; judging begins at 11 a.m. with free samples of over twenty different types of chili. Across the lot the Mazzio's Zone will open at Noon in the east end zone with fun for the whole family including face-painting, free mini footballs, and games for kids of all ages. Bring your own seat and receive free admission; the rowdiest fans in the Zone will get free pizza delivered during the first quarter.
Senior athletes will be recognized prior to kick-off and the Aggie Cheer team will perform a fast-paced dance for the crowd. At halftime, OPSU will recognize the game sponsor, Red Carpet Charters, and will also give a special presentation to recognize the Guymon Fire Department for their cooperative agreement with the university and the Fire Protection Program. Chili Cook-off winners will also be announced at the half.
The Aggie nation will be expecting a HUGE crowd to witness these broken milestones. Come out to support your team, and of course……WEAR RED! GET ROWDY! REV IT UP!
