Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—Halloween was in the air Thursday evening as the OPSU volleyball team competed against the Texas A&M University Dustdevils and hosted their second annual Halloween Spiketacular.
A spooky Aggie spirit could be felt the second you walked into Oscar Williams Fieldhouse. The foyer was decorated with spider webs and jack-o-lanterns and the team wore their black jerseys with skulls on their socks to show off their Halloween spirit. Even the coaching staff dressed up; head coach
Mike Stephens went as candy corn.
The Aggies started strong and battled through the first set neck and neck with TAMIU. It ended with a close store of 25-20 in favor of the Dustdevils. The match was taken in three games as the Dustdevils won the second and third sets 25-9 and 25-13. There was a total of 29 digs with
Julia Ibarra and
Megan Archuleta contributing 15 of them. The Aggies also had a total of 26 kills with twelve of them coming from
Shaina Eddings. The assists were led by
Terra Madden as she had 14 of the 22 total.
Although the match did not turn out on the side of the Aggies, plenty of Aggie fans showed up to support the team and participate in the largest costume contest to date making the Spiketacular a huge success. The large number of people in costumes showed off their outfits between the second and third sets while the rest of the crowd voted on their favorites; cash prizes were awarded to the winners. After the match the volleyball team handed out candy giving children of all ages a chance to partake in some early trick-or-treating.
The Aggies will be back in the Oscar Williams Fieldhouse on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 12 p.m. for a Heartland Conference Match against St. Mary's University. Saturday is also senior recognition day for the volleyball team with
Shaina Eddings,
Terra Madden,
Kayla Schwartz,
Natalya Weber and
Brittany Dubberstein being honored prior to the game. Everyone is invited to come support the Aggies and cheer on our seniors.
