McClendon Milestone Reached Despite Loss to Langston

Box Score Langston, Okla.—On November 1, 2014 the Oklahoma Panhandle State football team traveled to meet the Langston Lions at W. E. Anderson Stadium. For the past two years, the Lions have been the Aggies' Achilles heel. Langston proved to continue that title on Saturday as they beat the Aggies 38-17.

The Aggies left for Langston with intentions of making history and ultimately with a mission to once and for all defeat the Lions; however, the tough Langston atmosphere prevailed in dealing the Aggies a heart-breaking loss. The Aggies failed to find their groove as they turned the ball over three times, including a blocked punt to give the Lions significant chances to pack on a lead. Despite the Aggies having only 30 yards less than Langston for the game, turnovers won the battle.

The Aggies managed to gather 331 total yards compared to Langston's 361. Quarterback Caleb Holbrook threw for 184 yards with two touchdowns with two interceptions. Running back Chris McClendon was the bright spot for the Aggies totaling 127 yards on 23 carries; with this yardage McClendon broke past the 1,000-yard mark on the season. He now sits at 1,072 rushing yards for 2014.

The game did not go as planned for the Aggie Nation and Head Coach Russell Gaskamp shared some tough thoughts on the loss. "We got off to an awful start on both sides of the ball. We did not execute our game plan and were not ready to play. Langston played very well, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They have a good team and I don't want to take anything away from them. However, that was not our team today. We did not play with focus with which a good team plays. We need to regroup and prepare well for a much improved Wayland Baptist team next week. I want to thank our fan base that traveled well this week. It meant a lot to our guys. They will see a much better team next week."

The Aggies currently sit at 6-3 on the season, and will prepare to pull off a victory to end the year next week against the Wayland Baptist Pioneers in Plainview, Texas at 2 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 8. Everybody is encouraged to make the short trip to watch their Aggies improve to 7-3. WEAR RED! GET ROWDY! REV IT UP!
