A Win on the Road for the Aggie Women

Box Score Espanola, N.M.—After taking a loss to Northern New Mexico College in Goodwell last week, the Aggie women's basketball team evened the score in Espanola taking a 78-74 win Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles gained a seven-point lead at the 13:22 mark in the first half, but the Aggies sent them to the locker room down by three with a halftime score of 31-28 in favor of the visiting OPSU team. The Aggies built their lead to 11 points with under three minutes left in the game and finished with a four-point victory to increase their record to 2-7 on the season.

Junior point guard Kiera Waters once again led her team in scoring with a game-high 26 points against the Lady Eagles. Forward Tatyana Bell earned her third double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, a season-high number of boards for Bell. Senior Hannah Tatum also contributed 13 points and three steals for the Aggies.

Ashley John and Myla Woods-Brown shared the team-high in scoring for NNMC with 15 points each; Woods Brown was also the leading rebounder for the Lady Eagles with eight. The Aggies gave NNMC their second loss of the season moving their record to 8-2.

OPSU Coach Charles Terry had this to say after the win, "We are really proud of our kids who were sick, hurt and really down but still fought their tails off for a road win which has been a long time coming. All I ask for us to compete and they did just that."

The Aggie ladies will be back on their home court this week to kick off Heartland Conference play on Thursday, Dec. 18 against St. Mary's University starting at 5:30 p.m. The Aggie men start the week off with a single game against Bethel College on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.; the men will follow the women's game on Thursday also against St. Mary's.
