Newman’s Ciabattoni puts up 39 against Aggie Women

Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—Newman's Alexandra Ciabattoni scored almost half of her team's points in their 80-75 victory over the Aggie women Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies were down the entire first half going into the break with a nine point deficit to the Lady Jets (45-36). By halftime Ciabattoni had racked up 20 points shooting 72 percent from the field and going 4-4 from the line. Sarah Johnson led the Aggies in scoring at the half with 10 points.

Senior Meagan Bell started the second half off with a long distance shot good for three for the Aggies. OPSU gained a one-point lead with a layup good from Rosa Quinonez at the 10:33 mark (57-56) and later would gain a three-point lead over the Lady Jets off a Sarah Johnson layup. Newman went on to score 11 straight points while the Aggies went 0-7with less than two minutes left in the game. Despite great effort, the Aggies were unable to pull ahead and took a five-point loss to the Lady Jets.

Ciabattoni totaled 19 points in the second half shooting near perfect and missing only one shot from the field. The Aggies managed to outscore the Lady Jets 39-35 in the second half earning 10 second chance points to Newman's two.

Johnson led the Aggies in scoring for the eleventh straight game finishing with 20 points. Johnson also led the team in assists with five and also contributed a team-high four steals. Sharice Papaleo followed in scoring with 13 points and led the game in rebounds with nine. Meagan Bell, Rosa Quinonez, and Elida Bonilla each contributed two three-pointers.

The Aggies record falls to 1-22 overall with one conference win. The women are on the road until their final home game on Saturday, Mar. 1 when they take on Oklahoma Christian for their senior recognition game.
