Pioneers Outplay Aggies

Box Score Goodwell, Okla.—In an effort to avoid cold and windy playing conditions the Oklahoma Panhandle State University baseball game versus Wayland Baptist was moved up a day and played Monday at 2:30 p.m.; the game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The weather cooperated but the Aggie bats did not as OPSU had only six hits to Wayland's 14 for the nine-inning game. The Pioneers improved their record (11-6) with the 9-3 win and the Aggies took a disappointing loss at home moving to 5-11 overall.

Junior Zach Tingen, coming off his first win against Hillsdale, pitched seven innings for the Aggies and taking the loss with nine hits, five earned runs, and one strikeout. Josh Casillas and Dylan Chavez each threw one inning against the Pioneers.

The first inning was scoreless for both teams, and WBU struck first earning one run in the second inning.

The Aggies scored next in the fourth inning when Dylan Dudley reached first on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice hit by Jordan Bernal, and was brought home on an Evan Offutt single. After four innings the game was tied at 1-1.

Each team scored one run in the fifth which evened the score at 2-2.; with two outs Lucas Ogaz hit a home run for the Aggies to bring in the tying run.

Wayland answered with a home run in the seventh which brought in three RBI; scored a single run in the eighth; and brought in three runs at the top of the ninth to put them up 9-2.

Jordan Bernal came through with a run in the ninth inning, but the Aggies ran out of chances and came away with the loss.

Freshman Evan Offutt led the Aggies in hitting going 2-3 with one RBI; Lucas Ogaz and Robert Montoya each brought in one RBI. Sophomore centerfielder Peyton Osbon was busy in the outfield, totaling six putouts for the game.

Aggie baseball continues conference play this week with a three-game series against McMurry University. The series begins with a double-header Friday, Feb. 28 starting at 1 p.m. and will wrap up Saturday with game three which is also set for 1 p.m.
